Located in the heart of Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) is a vast medical complex that integrates a general hospital with specialized facilities for women and children. This structure, which utilizes a shared-services model, aims to maximize efficiency and patient outcomes.
The architecture combines a modernist aesthetic with regional design influences. The building’s footprint consists of geometric glass volumes atop a stone-clad, two-story base. The lower podium level houses critical medical services—including emergency, surgical, and radiology departments—along with amenities like shops and prayer rooms. Patient rooms are located on the upper levels. The overall design emphasizes a feeling of serenity through the incorporation of natural light, materials, and landscaped gardens.
